Real Salt Lake, the 2009 Major League Soccer Champions, opened its inaugural season on April 1, 2005. The franchise recently defeated the LA Galaxy to win the 2009 MLS Cup, bringing home the first major sports title to Utah in nearly 40 years. Led by head coach Jason Kries and playing in the highly acclaimed Rio Tinto Stadium, RSL has developed a strong fan base and has consistently ranked near the top of the MLS in attendance figures over its five years of play.
