  • Real Salt Lake, the twelfth member of Major League Soccer, opened its inaugural season on April 1, 2005. The franchise is set to move into its new state-of-the-art home - Rio Tinto Stadium - on October 9, 2008. Led by head coach Jason Kries, RSL has developed a strong fan base and has consistently ranked near the top of the MLS in attendance figures over its first three years of play. In addition, it has developed a relationship world-renowned soccer franchise, Real Madrid. The agreement includes co-owned youth soccer academies, a series of matches between the teams and the ability for RSL to use the internationally recognized training facilities in Madrid, Spain.
